How to create a QR code for Google reviews
- Open the Place ID FinderGo to Google's free Place ID Finder page. You don't need an API key or an account to use it.
- Search for your businessType your business name into the map's search box and pick it from the list.
- Copy the Place IDIt appears in the info window and starts with "ChIJ", for example ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4.
- Paste it aboveWe build the review link https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=… and the QR code instantly.
- Print the standClick "Print review stand" for a folding table stand, or download the code for your receipts, cards and windows.
Two ways to get your review link
Option 1: Place ID (works for every business on Google Maps). Follow the steps above. Google's Place ID Finder is a free, public page. You don't need a paid API. The link we build, https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_ID, opens the "Rate and review" window directly in Google Search or the Maps app.
Option 2: The "Ask for reviews" link (if you manage the Business Profile). Search for your business on Google while logged in as the owner, click Read reviews → Get more reviews (or "Ask for reviews"), and copy the short link. It looks like https://g.page/r/XXXX/review. Paste it into the field above and we'll use it as is.
A normal Google Maps share link (maps.app.goo.gl/…) doesn't contain the Place ID, so it opens your listing instead of the review form. The tool tells you if that happens.
Where to put your review QR code
- On the counter or at the till with the printable review stand.
- On receipts and invoices: "Happy with your order? Scan to review."
- On table tents in restaurants, next to the menu code.
- In the treatment room for salons, dentists and physios.
- On thank-you cards in deliveries and packaging.
- In your email signature and follow-up emails.
Ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when a customer thanks you, compliments the food, or picks up a finished job. A friendly "Would you mind leaving us a quick review? It's this code here" works far better than a sign on the wall alone.
Stay within Google's rules
Google's policies forbid review gating (only asking happy customers, or filtering people through a survey first) and incentives (discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews). Ask everyone, offer nothing in return, and never post reviews on behalf of customers. Breaking these rules can get reviews removed or the profile restricted.
Why this code never stops working
The code contains Google's own review link, not a redirect through our servers, so it works as long as your Google listing exists. No subscription, no expiry, no scan limits.
Troubleshooting
The code opens the listing, not the review form. You probably used a share link from Google Maps. Use the Place ID or the "Ask for reviews" link instead, as explained above.
"Place not found." The Place ID was copied incompletely. Place IDs are about 27 characters and start with ChIJ. Copy it again from the Place ID Finder.
Customers have to sign in. Google requires an account to post a review. Most Android users are signed in already; iPhone users may need to sign in once.
Turn the code into a habit
A stand on the counter collects reviews slowly. These small habits make a big difference:
- Train staff to mention it at the right moment: "If you enjoyed it, a review really helps us."
- Put the code on receipts and invoices.
- Add it to your follow-up email or WhatsApp message after a service.
- Reply to every review, positive and negative. People are more likely to review businesses that respond.
Use your design everywhere
Design the code once (colors, logo, "REVIEW US ON GOOGLE" frame) and it's saved in your browser. The printable templates can reuse it with My design from the QR generator for stands, posters and labels.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Google Place ID?
Open Google's free Place ID Finder (developers.google.com/maps/documentation/places/web-service/place-id), search for your business on the map and copy the ID that starts with "ChIJ".
Do I need a Google API key?
No. The Place ID Finder page is free to use without a key, and the review link itself needs no API.
Will the code open the review form directly?
Yes. The writereview link opens Google's review window with the stars ready to tap. Some phones briefly show your listing first.
Can I use the link from my Google Business Profile?
Yes. Paste the g.page/r/…/review link from "Ask for reviews" and we'll use it directly.
Is it allowed to offer a discount for reviews?
No. Google's policies forbid incentives for reviews. You may ask every customer, but don't reward or filter them.
Does the review QR code expire?
No. It contains Google's own link and keeps working for as long as your business listing exists.
