How to make a QR code for a Spotify playlist or song

    1. Copy the Spotify linkIn Spotify tap ⋯ (or right-click) → Share → Copy link to playlist / song / album / show.
    2. Paste the link aboveLinks look like https://open.spotify.com/playlist/… You can remove the part starting with ?si= for a shorter code.
    3. Style itSpotify green (#1DB954) works for the frame; keep the dots dark so the code scans.
    4. Download and testScan it: the Spotify app should open on the right playlist or song.

    Spotify Codes vs. QR codes

Spotify has its own "Spotify Codes", the sound-wave bars you can generate in the app. They look nice, but they only work inside the Spotify app's scanner: point a normal phone camera at one and nothing happens. A QR code works with every phone camera and opens Spotify directly, or the Spotify web player for people without the app.

    • A playlist: the wedding playlist, a party mix, the music in your shop or gym.
    • A song or album: a new release on posters, flyers and merch.
    • An artist profile: so new fans can follow you.
    • A podcast or episode: on business cards, in show notes and at live events.

    Tips

    1. Remove the tracking part. Copied links end with ?si=…. You can delete everything from the question mark; the code becomes simpler and the link still works.
    2. Use collaborative playlists for events. In Spotify, open the playlist → ⋯ → Invite collaborators. Guests who scan can add songs.
    3. Keep contrast. Green dots on black look great in Spotify's style but often fail to scan. Use dark dots on white and put the green in the frame.
    4. Print size: 2.5 cm (1 in) minimum on cards and inserts. The size calculator gives exact numbers for posters.

The same approach works for Apple Music, YouTube Music, SoundCloud and Deezer: copy the share link and paste it into the field.

    Troubleshooting

"Page not available" in Spotify. The playlist is private. Open it in Spotify, tap ⋯ and choose "Add to profile" or "Make public".

The code opens the wrong song. You may have copied the album link instead of the track, or the other way round. In Spotify, use the ⋯ menu of the exact song and choose Share → Copy song link.

It opens a web page instead of the app. On Android, check that Spotify is allowed to open its links (Settings → Apps → Spotify → Open by default). On iPhone, the link opens the app if it's installed.

Using the code on merch and packaging

    • T-shirts and tote bags: print the code at least 5 cm wide; fabric texture blurs small dots. Test a sample before the full run.
    • Vinyl and CD inserts: 2.5–3 cm is enough. Link to the album, or to a "bonus content" playlist.
    • Gig posters: link to your artist profile so fans can follow and get release notifications. Use the size calculator for poster sizes.

    Design ideas

Dark dots on a white or very light background always scan best. For a Spotify feel, put the green in the frame, keep the dots near-black, and use the Soft or Dots quick style. You can also put text in the center of the code, such as "PLAY" or "MIX", with the "Or put text in the center" option in the Logo section.

    Other music services

Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal, SoundCloud and Bandcamp all have share links. If your music is on several services, link to a single page that lists them all (a smart link from your distributor, or a page on your website).

    Frequently asked questions

Can a normal phone camera scan a Spotify Code?

No. Spotify Codes only work in the Spotify app's scanner. A QR code works with any camera, which is why it's better for print.

How do I get the link to my Spotify playlist?

Tap ⋯ on the playlist (right-click on desktop) → Share → Copy link to playlist.

Does it work for people without Spotify?

Yes. The link opens the Spotify web player, where they can listen or install the app.

Can guests add songs to a wedding playlist from the QR code?

Yes, if you make the playlist collaborative and they have a Spotify account.

Can I use it for a podcast?

Yes. Copy the show or episode link from Spotify and paste it in.

    Does the QR code expire?

No. It is a static link and keeps working as long as the playlist or song is on Spotify.
