How to make a menu QR code for your restaurant

    1. Put your menu onlineUpload a PDF to your website or Google Drive (shared with "Anyone with the link"), or use your online ordering page.
    2. Paste the menu linkBetter: use a fixed address like yourrestaurant.com/menu, so you can update the menu without reprinting the codes.
    3. Brand itAdd your logo, your colors and the "SCAN FOR MENU" frame.
    4. Print table tentsDownload the code, or open the printable templates to make a folding table tent with your code.

The menu QR code that never stops working

Restaurant owners were burned by "free" menu QR services that turned into a monthly bill or simply stopped working after a trial, leaving tables full of dead codes. A code made here contains your own link, so there's no subscription and nothing to expire.

Instead of linking directly to menu-spring-2026-final-v3.pdf, link to a stable page such as yourrestaurant.com/menu. When prices change, you update that page or replace the PDF behind it, and the printed codes keep working. That gives you the main benefit of "dynamic" QR codes, for free.

If you use a PDF, keep it under about 2 MB and design it in a single column so it's readable on a phone.

Where to put menu QR codes

    • Table tents in the middle of each table, where guests see it as they sit down.
    • Stickers on tables (laminated or waterproof).
    • Window and door: passers-by check the menu before coming in.
    • Takeaway bags and receipts: for the next order.

More codes your restaurant can use

Read the full guide: QR codes for restaurants: menus, reviews and WiFi. Always keep a few printed menus for guests without a smartphone.

    A one-hour setup plan

    1. Minute 0–15: export your menu as a phone-friendly PDF or update the menu page on your website.
    2. Minute 15–20: create the code here, with your logo and the "SCAN FOR MENU" frame. Try the Café quick style.
    3. Minute 20–30: open the printable templates, choose Menu table tent, set your restaurant name and download the PDF.
    4. Minute 30–45: print one copy, fold it, scan it at a table in normal evening lighting with two phones.
    5. Minute 45–60: print the rest on 200–300 gsm card or laminate them with matte film.

One code per table (for ordering)

If your ordering system uses table numbers, make one code per table with links like yoursite.com/order?table=7. In the bulk generator, paste the list and select a Frame text column so each code also shows "TABLE 7". Download everything as PNG files or straight onto Avery label sheets.

    Accessibility and guests without smartphones

Keep a few printed menus and offer them without being asked. Make sure the online menu has real text (not a photo of the menu), so screen readers and translation apps work. Show allergens as text, not just icons. These small things make the QR menu better for everyone, and avoid frustrated guests.

    Hygiene and durability

Table codes get wiped with cleaning products every day. Laminated card or acrylic stands last months; paper stickers last weeks. Check each table weekly for scratched, faded or covered codes, and keep a spare set printed.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I create a QR code for a PDF menu?

Upload the PDF to your website, Google Drive or Dropbox, set it to public, copy the link and paste it in the URL field above.

Can I update the menu without reprinting the QR code?

Yes, if the code points to a page you control (e.g. yourrestaurant.com/menu) and you update what that page shows. If you replace a Google Drive file, use "Manage versions" to keep the same link.

What size should a menu QR code be?

On a table tent, 3–5 cm (1.2–2 in) is ideal. On a window or door, make it 10 cm or larger. See our size calculator.

Do I have to pay monthly for a menu QR code?

No. This code is free forever. It contains your own link and doesn't route through any subscription service.

Can I have one QR code per table?

Yes. Use the bulk generator with links like yoursite.com/order?table=1, …=2, etc.

Can guests order and pay through the QR code?

The code can link to any online ordering system you already use. Paste that link instead of the menu.
