How to make an X (Twitter) QR code
- Enter your handleType your username without the @, or switch to the URL tab and paste a link to a post.
- Choose a frameUse a clear call to action: "FOLLOW US ON X" or "READ THE THREAD".
- Add your logo and colorsBlack on white suits X's style and scans best.
- Download and testScan it: the profile or post should open in the X app or browser.
Profile or a single post?
Link to your profile to grow followers: business cards, shop windows, conference badges and slides. Link to a single post when one post carries the message: an announcement, a thread explaining a product, a live event post or a pinned offer.
To get a post link, tap the share icon under the post and choose "Copy link". It looks like https://x.com/yourname/status/1234567890. Old twitter.com links still work; they redirect to x.com.
Usernames and links
X usernames are up to 15 characters and use letters, numbers and underscores. Enter it without the @; the generator builds the link https://x.com/yourname. If you rename your account later, the old link stops working, so make a new code after changing your handle.
Ideas that work
| Placement | Link to | Frame text |
|---|---|---|
| Conference badge or slide | Profile | "FOLLOW ME ON X" |
| Press release or media kit | Announcement post | "READ THE ANNOUNCEMENT" |
| Event venue | Live event post | "FOLLOW THE LIVE UPDATES" |
| Product packaging | Support account | "GET HELP ON X" |
| Restaurant or café table | Profile | "TAG US @YOURNAME" |
Design tips
- Black dots on white match X's look and scan reliably. Avoid white dots on black: many phones can't read inverted codes. Our scan test warns you.
- Use your own logo in the center. The X logo is a trademark with its own usage rules.
- Print large enough: 2.5 cm (1 in) minimum on cards, 15 cm (6 in) or more on posters seen from a few metres.
- Show your @handle under the code so people know who they're following.
One code for all your profiles?
If you are active on several platforms, either make one code per platform (the Social tab supports 19) or point a single code at a link page such as Linktree or your own website. One code is simpler on small prints; separate codes convert better when one platform matters most.
Measuring results
Static codes don't count scans, but X Analytics shows profile visits and new followers. Compare the weeks before and after a campaign, or link to your website with a UTM tag first if you need exact numbers per placement.
Frequently asked questions
Does the code open the X app?
Yes, on phones with X installed. Otherwise the profile or post opens in the browser.
Do old Twitter links still work?
Yes. twitter.com links redirect to x.com, but new codes use x.com directly.
Can I link to a specific post?
Yes. Copy the post link with the share button and paste it into the URL tab.
What if I change my handle?
Codes with the old handle will stop working. Create a new code after renaming.
Can I add the X logo?
You can, but follow X's brand guidelines. Using your own logo is simpler and makes the code recognisably yours.
Is it free?
Yes. Static, no sign-up, no watermark, no scan limits and it never expires.
