How to make a phone call QR code

    1. Enter the phone numberUse the international format with the country code, for example +91 98765 43210.
    2. Add a frame with a clear call to action"SCAN TO CALL" or "CALL FOR DELIVERY" tells people what will happen.
    3. Download PNG, SVG or PDFUse SVG or PDF for signs and vehicle stickers so the code stays sharp at any size.
    4. Test itScan with a phone: the dialler should open with your number filled in.

How a call QR code works

The code contains a standard phone link such as tel:+919876543210. When it is scanned, the phone opens its dialler with the number filled in. For safety, phones never start the call automatically: the person always taps the call button, so they stay in control.

    Always use the country code

Write the number in international format: a plus sign, the country code and the number without the leading zero. For India that is +91 followed by the 10-digit mobile number, for example +91 98765 43210. A number written this way works from any phone in any country, including visitors on foreign SIM cards. Toll-free numbers starting with 1800 usually only work from within India, so add a regular number too if you expect international callers.

Pick the code that matches what you want people to do:

    Code typeWhat happensBest for
Phone callDialler opens with the numberUrgent calls, service, deliveries
WhatsAppChat opens with an optional messageOrders, bookings, customer support
SMSText message app opensShort replies, keyword campaigns

The generator above has tabs for call, SMS and WhatsApp, so you can switch without retyping the number.

    Privacy on public codes

A number on a sign or vehicle can be scanned by anyone. For vehicles and pet tags, consider a second number or a business line rather than your personal mobile. Since the code is static, you can't switch it off later, only cover or replace it.

    • Print at least 2.5 cm (1 in) wide on stickers and 10 cm or more on boards read from a few metres away.
    • Use dark dots on a light background; weatherproof vinyl stickers last longest outdoors.
    • Print the number in digits next to the code too, for people who'd rather type it.

    Frequently asked questions

Does scanning the code start a call automatically?

No. The dialler opens with the number filled in, and the person taps call. Phones never dial on their own for safety.

Which number format should I use?

International format with the country code, for example +91 98765 43210 for an Indian mobile number.

Can I use a landline number?

Yes. Include the country code and the area code without its leading zero, for example +91 22 1234 5678 for Mumbai.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Every smartphone understands the standard tel: format.

    Will the code stop working?

No. It is a static code with the number inside it. It works as long as the number is in service.

Can I make a code that opens WhatsApp instead?

Yes. Switch to the WhatsApp tab above, or use the WhatsApp QR code generator to add a pre-written message.
